Have you ever witnessed political correctness harm someone?

Yes, my husband. He was kicked off student council in college because he described another (female) member who was happy and energetic as “perky.” The others at the table were convinced he was making a reference to her breasts, and refused to believe that he meant the other definition, which was happy and energetic. The words, “We know what he meant” actually came out of the guy’s mouth. So my husband was punished because of another member’s dirty mind, assumptions, and lack of vocabulary skills.
Of course, it didn’t help that he suggested a “hot girl car wash” as a fundraiser. That annoyed the women on the council to no end. He didn’t intend it to be demeaning, and couldn’t understand why it was, when he felt he was just stating the obvious fact that in advertising, beauty (sex) sells. Perhaps it shouldn’t, but it does. Funny thing is, he is not at all mysoginistic. He loves that I have a great job, and that I don’t wait around for him to take care of things I am perfectly capable of doing myself.
